Abstract
I will provide the overview of the operational principles of interferometer based gravitational wave (GW) detectors, discuss several early GW detections including joint observations with gamma rays and optical telescopes, and impact of such observation on astrophysics. We will discuss what sets the sensitivity limit for LIGO and ways to improve it with exotic states of squeezed light, for which the quantum noise is suppressed below the standard quantum limit. If time permits we will cover other applications for such quantum states for precision measurements.
