We are currently hiring for the Fall 2023 Semester!

The VCU Physics Tutoring Center provides students in Physics and related disciplines the opportunity to hone their physics skills and gain valuable experience by acting as tutors for our introductory physics courses. We are open Monday through Friday according to the academic calendar and offer both appointment tutoring and drop-in sessions. We also offer exam review sessions which not only provide a valuable service to students but also give tutors the opportunity to lead a group study session.
Please note: Tutoring positions are paid positions and are open only to current and former VCU students.

Job Description: Physics Lab Tutorial Assistant

The Department of Physics in the College of Humanities and Science at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting candidates for Physics Lab Tutorial Assistant positions. Our primary focus at the moment is hiring tutors for introductory physics courses. This position may also provide applicants with opportunities to assist in setting up physics lab experiments and demonstrations, proctoring exams, and grading physics lab reports.

Q. What are the minimum job requirements?
A. Prospective tutors should have a strong background in PHYS 207 & 208 and calculus.

Q. What is the time commitment?
A. It’s up to you! We design the Tutoring Center’s schedule and hours around our tutors.

  • Fixed schedule based on your availability - no minimum number of hours required.
  • Choose to tutor during drop-in sessions, by appointment or both. 

Q. What resources are available to help tutors prepare for sessions?

A. We provide tutors with information they need to help our students including class schedules,
lecture notes, and worksheets. We also have textbooks available for reference.

  • If our tutors need anything else they let us know and we do our best to get it!
