Physics Tutoring
The Physics Tutoring Center is closed during Summer 2024 and will Reopen in the Fall
The Physics Tutoring Center offers tutoring free of charge to all students in our introductory courses, regardless of major.
Our tutors are undergraduate majors in physics or related disciplines and graduate students who are prepared to assist you in excelling in your course. Since the tutoring center has support from faculty, you can be confident that the help you receive is well integrated with the course you are taking.

Students in physics and related disciplines have the opportunity to hone their physics skills and gain valuable experience by acting as tutors for our introductory physics courses. Our tutors also have opportunities to assist in setting up lab experiments, proctoring exams, grading lab reports and leading group study sessions.
Tutoring positions are paid positions and are open only to current and former VCU students.
How to apply
Applications are processed through VCU Handshake. To apply, login and search for physics lab tutorial assistant (Job # 7174902). In your application, please include information about all physics and math courses you've taken at university level. We also recommend including an unofficial transcript in your application materials.
Frequently asked questions
Prospective tutors should have a strong background in PHYS 207 and 208 and calculus.
It’s up to you! We design the Tutoring Center’s schedule and hours around our tutors.
- Fixed schedule based on your availability - no minimum number of hours required.
- Choose to tutor during drop-in sessions, by appointment or both.
We provide tutors with information they need to help our students including class schedules, lecture notes and worksheets. We also have textbooks available for reference.
If our tutors need anything else they let us know and we do our best to get it!
